There is nothing more pleasant than when you get an unexpected visit from a friend. Especially from someone you have not seen in years. Allison is friend of mine on Facebook who we comment on our post from time to time. I met Allison years ago when I worked at Binghamton University Libraries. She was a intern getting her library degree. We spoke a few times about school. When she left, she friended me on Facebook.
She is a great librarian with kind heart who loves working for public libraries. I remember once when I was going through a phase of arguing with my Facebook Army buddies about politics. Yes, it would get very heated and nasty. Allison reach out to me to chat. She tried to warn me on how toxic just conversations can be for me. She tried hard to make me think about it. It took me a lot longer that expected for me to see it.
Allison’s unexpected visit brought me so much happiness that day. Even the way we ran into each other was such a pleasant surprise. I was on my way out to go to the campus center. As I turned the corner of the stairs in the library, I saw Allison. We both looked at each a if to say, “don’t I know you from somewhere?” She said “Juan is that you?” and I said “Allison?” She immediately hugged me an introduced me to her mom, EiIleen and boyfriend, RJ. Then we all went up to the makerspace and talk about all the cool things we both do in libraries.
Allison made me feel so happy that day. Since neither of us are extroverted people. I took comfort in having a friend like her just show up. I know it can be hard for some. Especially when you are busy or stressed. But I always remind myself, that they are doing it for you.
Allison has a kind soul. I wish more people were kind like her, then the world would be a much more beautiful place.
